How can I remove the permanent labels from alcohol bottles?
I have five empty wine and liquor bottles that I've been keeping to make a cool display on a pre-lit shelf I have. I want to fill the bottles with colored liquids so that when the light shines on them, it would make a neat display. Most of the bottles do not have paper labels - they're pretty much a part of the bottle itself (such as Svedka - it's not a paper label, it's pretty much a part of the bottle).
Is there any way I can get rid of these labels so that the bottles can just be clear glass without an annoying label on them? I thought about maybe taking a razor blade to them to not scratch the glass but still somehow get the label off, but I didn't want to do it without asking first. If anyone has experience with this or knows how to get these labels off, please let me know. Best answer wins. Thanks!!!
You might try gum-out or soaking them in warm water over night.
Sometimes that works. However if it's one of those clear whole-bottle plastic labels, almost nothing takes those off except a hydrocarbon gum-off cleaner... maybe turpentine or something like that.
I used gum-off for my Milagro Tequila bottles after soaking them overnight, they came off fine, even the plastic pieces.
Good luck!
PS if you're looking for cool bottles, Milagro Tequila bottles are way cool. They have what looks like a crown or pinapple on the INSIDE of the bottle, all glass. No idea how they do that, but I saved the bottles for cordial competitions.
